Review
Formally the Bunch of Cherries, the Speckled Hen in St Albans was completely refurbished in 2006 and now has a smart modern interior.
It is a large pub with a central bar area that has seating to the front and right. Some of the seating consists of comfortable sofas and armchairs.
Bar staff are friendly and efficient. The pub was quite busy at the time of the review (8pm Thur) with a good mixture of mainly smartly dressed people of all ages.
Real ales consisted of Green King IPA and Abbott (as the pub is owned by Green King) and of course Morland Old Speckled Hen. The Old Speckled Hen ale was excellent.
There is a large patio to the front with tables and large umberellas to shelter from the sun and rain.
Food is served lunchtimes (12-3pm) and evenings (6 - 9:30pm). The menu consisted of many tasty sounding dishes, both main courses and snacks.
There's a single plasma screen that was tuned to Sky Sports News at the time of the review.
All in all a very smart, comfortable pub with good friendly atmosphere, good ales and a good looking menu.
If you're passing by it's well worth popping in.
